"Fred, as our host for the trip, did more than I ever expected, especially with having to deal with multiple airline cancellations that required him to work alternative arrangements and reschedule hotels and tours."

"The trip booklet was outstanding - well organized and provided us more than enough information to make the trip successful"

Gene & Joan visited: Buenos Aires, Peninsula Valdes, Mendoza and Iguazu Falls.

TRIP REVIEW OF GENE PEELE AND JOAN LEIBERT

"Overall, we want to thank Exploration Journeys, and Fred in particular, for providing us a fantastic trip to Argentina. Fred helped us customize the trip plan, kept us updated as needed, and arranged a combination of tours and activities in Buenos Aires, Patagonia, Mendoza and Iguazu that was a perfect fit for what we wanted to see and do on this trip.

Every detail was meticulously planned and communicated to us in a timely manner. The trip booklet was outstanding - well organized and provided us more than enough information to make the trip successful.

We were very happy with all the arrangements. The transfers to and from the airports, hotels, and tours all came off as planned or as adjusted for airline problems. The tour guides (in Buenos Aires, Herman in Patagonia, Rolly in Mendoza and Rod in Iguazu) were very professional and courteous at all times. They spoke terrific English and were very helpful and informative in every way. Our hotel accommodations were very clean, attractive and conveniently located. The hotels in Mendoza and Iguazu were top notch.

Special thanks goes to Fred for arranging at the last moment for my son, who lives in Buenos Aires, to join us on the Mendoza leg of the trip. Having him with us on the wine tours and the mountain drive made the trip all the more memorable.

Fred, as our host for the trip, did more than I ever expected, especially with having to deal with multiple airline cancellations that required him to work alternative arrangements and reschedule hotels and tours. He was always available and working to get us back on track. Despite the odds, his commitment and hard work made it possible for us to get flight arrangements to see Iguazu.

We highly recommend that you contact Fred and Exploration Journeys if you are considering travel plans to Argentina."

DAY 5: PENINSULA VALDES

Peninsula Valdes’ Unique Marine Fauna Heaven

The scenic Peninsula Valdes, where arid landscapes contrast with the blue crystalline sea, is home to an important breeding population of the endangered southern Right Whale (whale season takes place from May to early December), southern sea lions, orcas (also known as “killer whales”), Magellanic penguins (penguin season is from mid-September to mid April), as well as the largest continental colony of southern elephant seals in the entire world. National Geographic listed the Peninsula Valdes as one of the 10 best places in the world for whale-watching.

The inner part of the peninsula boasts rheas, guanacos (American Llama), hairy armadillos, ostriches and maras (very similar to hares). A high diversity and range of birds live in the peninsula as well; at least 181 species.

This is a full-day group tour.

An up-close encounter with the giant Southern Right Whale

Learn why National Geographic lists Peninsula Valdes as one of the 10 best places in the world for whale-watching. We’ll embark on a whale-watching adventure to get up-close and personal with one of the largest mammals on Earth: the Southern Right Whale!

One of the world’s rarest species of whale, the Southern Right Whale got its name because of the nature of its personality: easy to approach, friendly, and yielding large volumes of oil; making it therefore the “right” whale to hunt!

These whales are one of the more interactive whale species as they are usually on the water’s surface, which makes for a great viewing experience. They are very safe to approach and are often curious about boats passing by. They are playful and can be seen exhibiting unique behavior such as “sailing”, where they use their elevated tails to catch the wind; “lobtailing”, slapping it on the water; “headstanding,” where they rise in a vertical position with their head high above the air; and the most exciting, “breaching” where the whale jumps out of the water spinning, and landing with a huge splash!

We will spend approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes navigating before returning to the port.

This is a group tour done on the same day as the Peninsula Valdes tour.

DAY 6: PENINSULA VALDES

An Up-Close & Personal Experience Walking among the Cute Magellanic Penguins

Punta Tombo Reserve is home to the world’s largest colony of Magellanic penguins, giving you the unique opportunity to get up close and personal with over a hundred thousand of these adorable creatures, which are only found on the Falkland Islands and the coasts of Argentina and Chile.

This is a long half-day group tour (the visit to the Punta Tombo Magellanic Penguins reserve lasts 2 hours), but it’s usually combined with at least 1 other tour option in the area making it a full-day tour.

With so much panoramic beauty to behold, this road trip will definitely be a feast for your eyes and your camera!

This is a full-day private tour.

DAY 9: MENDOZA

Savoring First-class Wines in Mendoza’s Central Region (private tour)

Over the past 20 years, there has been a revolution in the Argentine wine industry, driven partly by the success of one grape that, in many countries, is used only for mixing – the rich, velvety Malbec. Dense and dark, with full-body richness that few other grapes can mimic, the Argentine Malbec varietal has become all the rage in the United States, and is increasing in popularity among other countries as well. 94% of restaurants in the top ten wine markets in the US feature Malbec on their wine lists, according to a 2010 survey on Wine Spectator magazine.

Enjoy an exclusive wine tasting experience as you take in the taste of first-class Argentine wines, and visit some of the most prestigious wineries in Mendoza. Located at the foothills of the Andes mountain range, in the shadow of Mount Aconcagua, the vineyards in Mendoza are planted at some of the highest altitudes in the world; with the average site located anywhere between 2000 and 3600 feet (600 to 1100 meters) above sea level This allows winemakers to plant at exactly the right altitude for each grape variety to ripen perfectly. Argentina is the fifth wine producer in the world, and with over a thousand active wineries accounting for more than 70% of Argentina’s wine production, Mendoza is considered the heart of the Argentine winemaking industry.

Guided by a local oenologist (wine expert), you’ll enjoy touring the facilities of three wineries, while getting a close-up look at the process of wine-making, and of course tasting their wines.

This is a full-day private tour and includes gourmet lunch with wine tasting at a Mendoza winery.

DAY 11: IGUAZU

Witness the Unique Power & Might of the Iguazu Falls from the Argentine Side (private tour)

“You might have seen the photos. Even read about it. You might have visited other great waterfalls before. But you probably still have no idea what to expect when you come face to face with the almighty Iguazu Falls,” stated CNN in their article “Iguazu Falls: Why this natural wonder should be on everyone’s bucket list". To put that into perspective, Iguazu Falls is nearly twice as tall as Niagara Falls and nearly three times as wide. The late U.S. First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, was reportedly so impressed by the sight of Iguazu Falls that she exclaimed “Poor Niagara!”

In 1984, Iguazu Falls became a UNESCO World Heritage Site; and in 2011, it was selected as one of the 7 winners of the “New Seven Wonders of Nature” worldwide competition in which more than 100 million votes were cast.

Their size and scale are unlike any other waterfall on Earth. Made up of a system of 275 waterfalls, they have a staggering water flow of up to almost 3.5 million gallons (13 million liters) per second – enough to fill five Olympic swimming pools!

Unlike Niagara Falls, which is surrounded by developments such as casinos, a revolving restaurant, and coffee shops, Iguazu Falls are located within one of the few remaining inland rainforests in South America, the Atlantic rainforest, which is a haven for more than 2,000 plant species, about 400 birds species, and 80 types of mammals!

This is a full-day private tour.
